Colonel Manpreet Singh Biography
Colonel Manpreet Singh was an Indian Army officer who was killed in a gunfight with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir on September 13, 2023. He was the commanding officer of the 21 Rashtriya Rifles battalion.
Singh was born in 1982 in Amritsar, Punjab. He was commissioned into the Army in 2004. He served in various parts of the country, including Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan, and the Northeast. He was awarded the Sena Medal in 2018 for his gallantry in operations against terrorists.
On September 13, 2023, Singh was leading a joint operation with the Jammu and Kashmir Police to flush out terrorists from a village in Shopian district. The operation turned into a gunfight, and Singh was killed along with Major Ashish and Deputy Superintendent of Police Humayun Bhat.
Singh’s death was mourned by the Army and the nation. He was posthumously awarded the Maha Vir Chakra, the third highest military award in India.
