Tyla Biography
Tyla Laura Seethal, known mononymously as Tyla, is a South African singer-songwriter. She was born on January 30, 2002, in Johannesburg, South Africa, into a Coloured family with Zulu, Indian, and Mauritian descent.
Tyla Career
Tyla began her music career by posting original songs and covers to her Instagram account. She was discovered by her first manager, Garth von Glehn, in 2021, and subsequently signed to Epic Records. Her debut single, “Getting Late” featuring Kooldrink, was a domestic success in South Africa.
In 2023, Tyla rose to international prominence with her single “Water”. The song was a top ten hit in a dozen countries, including the United Kingdom, Australia, and the United States, making it the first song by a South African soloist to enter the US Billboard Hot 100 in 55 years. “Water” was also nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Dance/Electronic Recording.
